John A. Jernigan, M.D., M.S. is currently Director of the Office of Prevention Research and Evaluation, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. In his work at CDC, Dr. Jernigan has played a leading helping design and implement research seeking innovative approaches to preventing healthcare associated infections and antibiotic resistance. He has authored/coauthored over 100 peer-reviewed publications on these topics. His role in CDC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has focused on the epidemiology and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in nursing home settings.
